20/20
I draw people i see on my journey to and from work - macclesfield to manchester, the journey is roughly 20 mins twice a day - thats all the time I have to give to this - though would love to give more
Having that limit on time means that you have to focus - sometimes i do more than one drawing in that time. Most people are too busy looking at their phones to see the wonderful around them.
I am fascinated by people, their body language and their faces and the emotions they portray, I try and capture them in their raw state, so no posing for the camera, no masks, just natural body language
The rhythm of the train often dictates the quality of the line work - you can’t fight it you just have to roll with it
Each person has a story to tell ( to me at least ) from the old man who works outside the palace hotel on oxford road, to the homeless woman who sits outside Sainsbury’s asking for spare change.
Some people I see daily and return to again and again, some I only see once and never again.
So far I have been drawing for about 3 years off and on and have around 1500 sketches and paintings, my plan is to whittle these down to around 400 for a book of some of my favourite sketches/paintings and then 40 for a potential exhibition next year - 2020
